Best RAM for Ryzen 5900x & 5950x

AMD came out with Ryzen 5900x & 5950x last November. These are some very powerful processors, to say the least. Their performance boost is drastic, and they are the only processors bringing their monstrous gaming performance into the industry right now.

So, it’s safe to assume that these bad boys can’t work with any ordinary set of components I.e., the RAM (as the two go side-by-side). For these processors to work at their full potential.

You have to make sure the RAM you choose is the fastest one you can get your hands on. Otherwise, you are going to face stuttering, crashes, random reboots, and/or ultimately the scary blue screen of death.

This is exactly why we have compiled a list of the best ram for Ryzen 5900x & 5950x the marketplace has to offer currently.

This is exactly why we have compiled a list of the best ram for Ryzen 5900x & 5950x the world has to offer currently. We have focused mainly on the performance; the Clock and Overclock speeds, the CAS Latency, and the corresponding timings.

The products below have been very carefully picked based on, as mentioned before, performance as well as design, feature, and specifications. There is also a pros/cons list, and a summary at the end of every product.

Performance

Not only is the G.Skill Trident Z Royal the prettiest memory module on this list, but it is also the fastest, best-performing one as well.

We get an out-of-the-box whopping 4000MHz clock speed and a CAS latency of 17 (timings being very tight; at 17-18-18-38), it just does not get any better than that. The out of the box performance you get is well worth the price point.

If you aren’t sold even after all that, let’s talk about the overclocking headroom this RAM has to offer. we were able to get 4266 MHz clock speed by doing the adjustments accordingly.

Design

When you first get this beast out of the box. You can’t keep your excitement under control. No, we are not talking about it metaphorically. This RAM kit is very shiny.

The highly polished surface reflects the light right off of it, giving it a very royal vibe (that’s what’s been promised hasn’t it). The RGB strip comes with a line of crackled crystals that gives this RAM an irresistible elegance.

These lights are completely customizable through a set of software (talked about in features). Trust us when we tell you, in terms of aesthetics and performance, the G.Skill Trident Z Royal is one of the leading memory available for the new Ryzen processors right now.

Pros
  • Absolutely Beautiful
  • Amazing out-of-the-box performance.
  • Amazing overclocking headroom.
  • Customizable RGB lights
Cons
  • None

What Stands Out

If you have a little financial room, We do recommend going for the G.Skill Trident Z Royal (4000MHz). It is well worth your money.

With its extraordinary out-of-the-box clock speed and latency values, and just as good overclocking headroom. Trust on it, you will not regret buying this beauty.

2

Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro

Best Selling Ram for Ryzen 9 5900x

Specifications:

  • Frequency: 4000Mhz
  • Latency: 19-23-23-45
  • Storage: 16GB (8X2)
  • Supported Processors: Intel Core i3 6th gen or better, AMD Ryzen
  • Clock Cycles: 19

Features

The iCue software Corsair offers do not do the bare minimum by only giving the user control over the RGB lights. This software is truly innovative with the amount of control it gives its users in all aspects.

Truly something that other companies need to work on. In addition to that, you can view your RAM’s temperature graphs. And of course, have never-ending personalized light shows in your room.

Performance

Most of Corsair’s RAM kits are based on overclocking, and almost all of them can be overclocked into a better frequency with much faster timings. The Corsair Vengeance comes with a clock speed of 4000MHz and timing of 19-23-23-45.

With a little bit of overclocking, you can easily able to get a clock speed boost of 200-600MHz and competitively faster timings.

Design

The biggest fear when it comes to the companies trying to make their products prettier is; redundancy and lack of focus on performance (which this memory module isn’t lacking in, fortunately).

We are tired of seeing the same RGB effects recycled and reclaimed. However, with that being said, the Corsair Vengeance RGB pro does not do that.

Its fresh, unique, bold look catches everyone’s eye the minute it is plugged it in. The black heat spreaders combined with the black PCBs give the kit a matte, soft finish. Blend that with the different RGB effects and its *chef’s kiss*.

Pros
  • Unique RGB effects
  • Very interactive software that allows full control
  • Amazing overclocking performance
Cons
  • Not the best out of the box performance

What Stands Out

This might sound weird, but the reason why this memory module is high on our list is not because of its incredible overclocking ability. But because of its corresponding software, the iCue. Who wouldn’t want to opt for complete control over their RAM kit for max performance?

3

Thermaltake TOUGHRAM RGB

Best Gaming Ram for Ryzen 9 5900x

Specifications:

  • Frequency: 4400Mhz
  • Latency: 19-25-25-45
  • Storage: 16GB (8X2)
  • Supported Processors: Intel Core i3 6th gen or better, AMD Ryzen
  • Clock Cycles: 19

Features

Thermaltake TOUGHRAM RGB features the exclusive TOUGHRAM software that allows you to monitor your RAM’s performance in real-time, it also keeps track of your temperature values and frequency.

Thermaltake TOUGHRAM RGB features the exclusive TOUGHRAM software that allows you to monitor your RAM’s performance in real-time, it also keeps track of your temperature values and frequency.

It allows RGB customization for over 20 lighting effects. Pretty casual stuff, right? Well, yes and no. In addition to all of the features mentioned above, we found the user interface of the software very simple and easy to navigate through.

This RAM is also compatible with your motherboard’s software, TT RGB PLUS, TT AI Voice Control, Razer Chroma, and here’s the catch, Amazon Alexa.

The 10- Layer PCB construction allows maximum overclocking capability. The tight screen memory chips allow optimal response times. The extra sturdy heatsinks and gold fingers allow durability and optimal heat dissipation.

Performance

Thermaltake RAM kits come in a series, ranging from 3000 MHz clock speeds to 4400MHz.

For this review, we have looked into the 4400MHz one, with a CAS Latency of 19. Pretty standard is it not? It has the same timings as the Corsair Vengeance LPX on this list.

These kinds of specifications give you a decent performance. Not outstanding, but good enough. The timings, however, could be better. Advertised at a CL19 but having very loose timings of 19-25-25-45 does impact the performance.

Even after trying, we barely got it to overclock, so it’s safe to assume that there is barely any room for it. With the TOUGHRAM you are stuck with what you get, even with a little tweak, it would be nearly impossible to make the timings slightly better.

Design

The first thing that caught our attention about the Thermaltake RGB DDR4 4400MHz was its premium look. The Thermaltake TOUGHGRAM RGB has an aluminum brushed body that brings out the minimalism in the RGB light placement. The overall finish with the 16.8 million color spectrum will uplift your system’s overall look and feel.

Pros
  • Very Durable
  • Minimalistic Design that stands out from other RAM kits
  • An affordable option that has an RGB system
Cons
  • Hard to overclock
  • Loose timing

What Stands Out

With this price point, you do not get such a good-looking RGB Light supporting kit, a 4400MHz speed, and such a sturdy body. Although the timings may not be the best, the features make up for this.

4

Crucial Ballistix

Best Entry Level Ram for Ryzen 9 5900x

Specifications:

  • Frequency: 3600Mhz
  • Latency: 16-18-18-38
  • Storage: 16GB (8X2)
  • Supported Processors: Intel Core i3 6th gen or better, AMD Ryzen
  • Clock Cycles: 16

Features

This RAM kit comes in three different colors, red, black, and white, we obviously went for the black. The anodized aluminum heat sink gives maximum room for heat dissipation specifically for small, compact spaces.

The small body increases the physical compatibility of the product. Crucial Ballistix Especially caters to small form factor gamers with its low profiles and SODIMM memory.

Performance

Looking at the clock speed of 3600 MHz we get the impression that this RAM may not be the fastest. But a Latency of 16 may change your mind about it.

Your daily usage would be completely smooth, with no crashes and no overheating. This RAM kit has a very good overclocking ability, pushing it a little bit gives us a value of 4000MHz. This, however, does not exactly change the performance because the latency increases with the clock speed.

And although we didn’t do it, as long as you try to tweak the timings, you will get a much more appropriate latency without a shift in the overclocked speeds.

Design

We did mention before, the unfortunate redundancy in certain products’ RGB features. With the Crucial Ballistix, we saw that.

The Crucial Ballistix does not bring something new to the table, it has the same RGB system and nothing that stands out unlike the previous three RAM kits in this list. However, the colors are very bold and have a pretty clean finish. We have also faced no flickers yet.

The software could be a bit better with its effects and transitions. There is a lack of variety, and it does not offer a lot of customization.

Pros
  • Adequate out of the box Performance
  • Has great room for overclocking with a few tweaks.
  • Is catered towards laptop gamers.
  • a good entry-level price point
Cons
  • Has a very generic RGB design
  • The software could be better

What Stands Out

The overclocking headroom in this RAM kit is probably one of the better ones. And through some minute adjustments to the settings, you might be able to push it to the extreme for the best performance possible.

5

Corsair Vengeance LPX

Best Budget Ram for Ryzen 9 5900x

Specifications:

  • Frequency: 4000Mhz
  • Latency: 18-22-22-43
  • Storage: 16GB (8X2)
  • Supported Processors: Intel Core i3 6th gen or better, AMD Ryzen
  • Clock Cycles: 18

Features

The Corsair Vengeance LPX is mostly known for its spectacular performance and features that make it stand out in the market. They took the conventional route with the Vengeance LPX. And they make it clear with its entry-level price point.

This RAM module comes with a premium build quality, it contains heat spreaders made up of aluminum that also help with the cooling of the RAM.

Other than that, it comes in different colors. So, you can match in with the aesthetics of your gaming rig.

The compact body of this RAM allows it to be physically compatible with any system. If you plan to keep it simple, the corsair vengeance LPX is one of the best options available for you.

Performance

With a clock speed of 4000MHz, a CAS latency of 19-23-23-45. Is it enough? Well, the value of 4000 MHz is considered fine for heavy workload and gaming.

If we talk about the overclocking, with a tiny bit of tweaks in the voltage, We were able to drastically change the timings and even put a little modest dent in the 4000Mhz with a few 100 MHz and even that does wonder for the performance.

Design

Straying away from our typical RGB light scheme, let us look at a more conventional setup, shall we? The Corsair Vengeance LPX is a breath of fresh air with its minimalistic design without the RGBs.

This compact beast comes in 4 different colors of blue, red, white, and a very handsome black (yes, Most of us are all-things black people, so we mostly prefer Black).

Staying true to its advert, We found this kit very compact (standing at 34.4mm); very appropriate for small spaces. The heat spreaders give it a bold look without making it look over the top. Overall, 10/10 for the design if you ask us (unless you’re into RGBs)

Pros
  • Entry-level price point
  • Can fit into small compact systems easily.
  • High overclocking Headroom
Cons
  • Not the best out of the box experience
  • No RGB lighting system

What Stands Out

This memory module is the most budget-friendly one on this list. So, if you are willing to overlook the out-of-the-box performance (which is not bad by any means) this could be your choice. And for all you overclocking enthusiasts; well, guess you’ve found your next RAM kit.

6

Viper Steel DDR4 16GB

Best Premium Ram for Ryzen 9 5900x

Specifications:

  • Frequency: 4400Mhz
  • Latency: 15-15-15-36
  • Storage: 16GB (8X2)
  • Supported Processors: Intel Core i3 6th gen or better, AMD Ryzen
  • Clock Cycles: 15

Features

The lack of software-dependent features makes up for the heavy performance shown by this RAM Kit. The custom-designed high-performance aluminum heat spreader allows maximum heat dissipation.

This module has tested compatibility with all sorts of premium platforms. And it comes with a limited lifetime warranty.

Performance

The Patriot Viper Steel proves that the RAMs with the best features are not always the best performing.

We did instantly get around 4400MHz when we tried it, so it stays true to what it offers. Although it does require beefy motherboards/ processors for it to run smoothly (Ryzen 9 processors being just those). We consider it one of the best RAM kits for the Ryzen 5000 series.

Overclocking this kit gave us surprising results. We were able to reach 4600 MHz, and the timings became dramatically better.

But the out of the box memory in itself should be enough for you to buy this memory kit. It is very unusual to get a speed of 4400 MHz and a CL19 (timings of 19-19-19-39) at this price point, and Viper Steel is not only affordable but also so much better than so many of its expensive counterparts.

Design

Okay, ladies and gentlemen, you got me, the Corsair Vengeance LPX is not the only RGB free RAM kit we have on this list. The Patriot Viper Steel also comes with a lack of RGB.

This black-bodied beauty is not the one to sit out on with definitely no lack of power, performance, and design aesthetics.
Catering to our inner goth, many of us fell in love with its gunmetal heat spreaders and the sharp viper logo in the middle giving the mod a very simplistic punk/goth look. Sleek, dark, and charming. (Hence the name)

The design, if not the best, is one of the best we have seen this year from Patriot despite the visible lack of RGB.

Pros
  • Out of the box 4400MHz frequency
  • Great Price to performance ratio
  • Sleek design without any over the top RGB
  • Plenty of overclocking headroom
Cons
  • Requires a beefy motherboard for optimal performance

What Stands Out

What we find the most attractive about this RAM kit is the performance it shows without being too tacky and pretentious. If an RGB feature is not mandatory in your checklist, we do recommend that you look into the Patriot Viper Steel DDR4-4400 Memory kit.

Conclusion:

Although we all believe that the prices should be a big focus in choosing a RAM. And that there are some very budget-friendly RAMs out there If there is RAM that is offering you the performance, the features, and the design, for a high-end price point.

You should go for that one. With that being said, our list does have some very budget-friendly mods that offer you exactly what some of the expensive ones do, even more. This is exactly why we recommend the following (in order):
