List of Call of Duty Games in Order
Call of Duty
Release Date | 29th October 2003 |
Platforms | PC, OS X, PS3, Xbox 360 |
Developer | Infinity Ward |
Sales | 4.6 million copies |
For the first time, Activision published the first Call of duty game. It’s a fact that people have a thing for history, especially if the game is based on real-time events. Call of duty takes on the dreadful period of World war 2. The artwork depicted in the game equates to the 100 percent possibilities that occurred in world war 2. Surprisingly, the infantry and the brother in arms are somewhat similar to the games of that time.
What is so special about the original title?
You are not alone anymore. The developers coded AI-controlled Allies that help you in achieving the mission goals. They are your supportive feedback on which you can rely on. Hoot and shoot together, kill the enemy warheads. Additionally, the main campaign has three different proposed timelines: America, Britain, and Russia. You get the chance to play in all war-affected areas to witness the unwinding narrative.
You must be wondering how PS3 and Xbox 360 platforms were used. Producers had no choice but to release the game on the newer platforms too. It’s never too late. Go on and grab a copy for yourself; believe me, you’ll be dragged back to the early 20th century’s crucial times.
Call of Duty 2
Release Date | 5th October 2005 |
Platforms | PC, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360, Wii |
Developer | Infinity Ward |
Sales | 6.0 Million copies |
The second title made a ground-breaking entry after its predecessor with more improved graphics and mechanics. Call of duty 2 was based on similar tactics and storyline, helping in progress the story of world war 2 with Britain being another faction. Now two timelines were running simultaneously in Britain. Not to mention, in the second title, the health bars were eliminated, giving you an onscreen indication that your player is taking bullets (Red-screen). The game removed the concept of healing through syringes or health packets, which means now the health will be regenerated on its own.
Around 27 new campaign missions were added with their respective Act following. Call of duty 2 also brought forward the multiplayer notion where you can fight off your enemies with your friends. Everything was polished and gave a huge fan following to the franchise.
Such new features gave the franchise a humongous fan following, resulting in more worldwide copies sold. If you are looking forward to burning midnight oil, then this is your game. Plan your ways to eliminate the brute force on a hungry battleground.
Call of Duty 3
Release Date | 7th November 2006 |
Platforms | PS2, PS3, Xbox 360, Xbox, Wii |
Developer | Treyarch |
Sales | 7.1 Million copies |
Whenever a developer changes, the chances are that the game gets ruined, and so was the case with Call of duty 3. A series of glitches and bugs didn’t allow the game to get released on the PC. It was sorrowful that the PC gamers didn’t taste the sequel to the Phenomenal Call of duty 2.
The Treyarch was able to inaugurate many new features such as the availability of multiple protagonists, new maps that were refurbished for graphics enhancement. There were conditional tweaks to the game. Unfortunately, the single-player (A repetitive loop) curbed all the game’s chances of being revolutionary for its time. Additionally, the multiplayer remained static, which means nothing new was added to it. But surprisingly, the new platforms that the game was released give access to the feature of cross-platform multiplayer. This was excruciatingly enticing for gamers.
Whatever the reasons were for gamers giving it average stars, regardless, it sold a million extra copies than its predecessor. Are you a multiplayer freak? Then this game is just for you with an ancient tint to its aura.
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
Release Date | 5th November 2007 |
Platforms | PC, OS X, PS3, Xbox 360, Wii. Nintendo DS |
Developer | Infinity Ward |
Sales | 16 million copies + |
Infinity Ward officially brought the World War 2 settings to an official dead end and gave birth to the Modern Warfare series. The 3 prequels to the Modern Warfare series were renowned for their attribute sharing and embellishment to certain features. The breakthrough of the 4rth title did the same. It brought new maps, two new protagonists from American and Britain, and a diversified multiplayer option.
New infantry, weapons, vehicles, and a perk system were introduced. You can customize your character as per your will. The narrative was set in the early 2010s giving a fictional aura to the storyline. The protagonists were set up to wipe out the terrorism inside conflicting countries such as the US, UK, and the Middle East. There were discrete new features for multiplayer that include airstrike support, recon scans, and much more. Modern Warfare also supported the notion of cross-platform linkages that allows you to play with your friends on different platforms. The game won an array of awards for its phenomenal graphics tweaking and ground-breaking features. Some game fanatics unlocked MOD options through which you can tweak the command system as per your will. If that’s not fascinating, then what is? Modern Warfare deserves all the praise and awards.
Call of Duty: World at War
Release Date | 11th November 2008 |
Platforms | PC, PS3, Xbox 360, Wii |
Developer | Treyarch |
Sales | 15.7 million copies + |
The 5th title was a rip-off to the series. Let’s say Treyarch produced the game to bring something about World War 2 from a different perspective. Japan and Germany were brought into action and followed a unique narrative. In particular, World at War stands out when its companion games were compared because of the new-narrative style, weapons, environment, option of tuning, and most importantly, a fully-fledged multiplayer with new arrivals.
The title pioneers a new game-engine that makes the visualization more enthralling. The perk system was still there with enhancement to the previous features. In my opinion, if you are into World war two settings with zombie apocalypse scenarios, and want to experience the narrative from two new sides, then this is the game you should be playing right now. The game was released on Wii after a couple of years of its popularity. The ports were utilized fully, and that’s why it got released on PC and a plethora of different consoles.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
Release Date | 10th November 2009 |
Platforms | PC, OS X, PS3, Xbox 360 |
Developer | Infinity Ward |
Sales | 16 million copies + |
The 6th Installment was somehow considered controversial due to one of the game’s missions: Airport terrorism. Many authorities and snowflakes tried to defame the game, and maybe it wasn’t much of a deal. Killing innocents in the airport was somehow causing turmoil; regardless, the game got an average rating. Modern Warfare 2 revolves around the same storyline, which was proposed by its predecessor. Some of the new elements of weapon handling furbished the perk system, and the new environment boosted the popularity of the game. One of the features which helped the game remain on per the requirement was the Cooperative mode, where you can continue the legacy on the campaign with your friends. The feature was given the name “Spec Ops,” Which is somewhat professional and cute. Notwithstanding, the way the storyline was depicted with seasoned norms and mind-bending elements was hugely appreciated. If you are looking forward to something terrific, spicy, and gore, then this sequel is just made for you.
Call of Duty: Black Ops
Release Date | 10th November 2009 |
Platforms | PC, OS X, PS3, Xbox 360 |
Developer | Infinity Ward |
Sales | 16 million copies + |
The franchise took a seemingly prolonged break from World War 2 setting and background narratives. The black-ops title was again something new to gamers, which brought in the event of the Cold War. There were around 8 locations to give a follow-up and explore the vast technical environment. The visuals and mechanics remained static for this game, too, apart from a few new features such as new weapons and a trained protagonist.
Surprisingly, zombie mode in multiplayer made its second appearance and gave the gamers experience in fighting off the apocalypse. To be honest, it’s every gamer’s dream to be held accountable for experiencing a deadly and horrific zombie horde.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
Release Date | 8th November 2011 |
Platforms | PC, OS X, PS3, Xbox 360, Xbox One |
Developer | Infinity Ward/ Sledgehammer games |
Sales | 31.0 Million copies |
Modern Warfare 3 extends the narrative of Modern Warfare 2 and is set in the same world. However, you experience the storyline in an overwhelmingly disturbing manner where the visuals are graphical and real-time. You also get the option of skipping the scenes to save yourself from seizures and psychological effects. Some features were carried forward, and some were introduced. For example, a new survival mode was incorporated to give a survival experience with a perfect countdown.
Moreover, there was an intentional difficulty tweaked by the developers. You get a harder set of environments on normal difficulty to give a more real experience. All in all, the 8th Installment was another feat by the Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games, which helped in understanding war tactics from proximity.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 2
Release Date | 13th November 2012 |
Platforms | PC, PS3, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Wii U |
Developer | Treyarch |
Sales | 29.8 Million copies |
Black Ops 2 brought something way out of the world into the Call of duty series. Although the second title follows in the footsteps of its predecessor, it gives two new campaign modes. One was set back in the 1980s and the other into the future (2025). The combination of the future and past made it a phenomenal and worth spending game. It’s awe-inspiring when both the timelines are connected. The 1980 timeline proposed the main protagonist, whereas the protagonist’s son gave a follow-up in 2025.
Additionally, a new feature of permanent death was introduced into the series, where one death equated to the mission getting re-started. This made the game more brutal and focused and gave the gamers a hard-time completing the campaign.
Surprisingly, a worthy feature of decision-making was also proposed. It means that there are multiple and alternative endings depending on the choice you have made so far. This elaborates on the chaos theory that was implemented in the game.
Call of Duty: Ghosts
Release Date | 5th November 2013 |
Platforms | PC, PS3, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Wii U, PS4 |
Developer | Infinity Ward |
Sales | 29.0 Million copies |
Call of Duty Ghosts was another rip-off to the original title, just like Black ops and the modern warfare series. In terms of narrative and mechanics, the game remained the same following the previous AAA titles’ footsteps. But there was something new to the game in terms of multiplayer, which gives you access to a multitude of new maps with a surfeit of mind-blowing perks. Not to mention, you can also choose between male and female characters for the multiplayer. It is said that Ghosts was one of the games which enhanced and shaped the multiplayer genre for the upcoming Call of duty games.
When the campaign is considered, it is said it was a downgrade to the whole series. Why? Well, there was a single story that followed Logan Walker, giving you access to control his German Shepard only. It means you can’t control minor and major narratives from different protagonists. Yet the embellishments given to the environment are mesmerizing. It’s better if you give the game a shot.
Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare
Release Date | 4th November 2014 |
Platforms | PC, PS3, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS4 |
Developer | Sledgehammer Games |
Sales | 22.0 Million copies |
The developers changed the way Call of duty used to function as the title suggests “Advanced warfare.” They buried everything in the past and focused on what might be happening next. This title’s release knocked off the game into total desolation and made it entirely a Sci-Fi game. Advanced Warfare harbors many futuristic tools and weapons you can choose from—especially the exoskeleton, which is wonderful.
This title also made significant changes to radar, Hub, and brought in new holographic visuals that depicted the futuristic possibilities. Not to mention, the game is entirely made up, and the story is set up in the late 2050s making all the narratives non-trustworthy. But here’s a thing, the developers changed everything related to multiplayer and made it into something which was yearned by every gamer. You can fast pace kill people, use time limits, new gadgets to coax your enemies into, and so much more.
Unfortunately, the game didn’t make it to the finish line. The acclaimed reviews made the game stay on an average score, which was sort of disappointing.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 3
Release Date | 6th November 2015 |
Platforms | PC, PS3, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS4 |
Developer | Treyarch |
Sales | 26.8 Million copies |
Decades later, the third title to the original Black Ops campaign was put into action in 2015. Well, this was another problematic game in terms of narrative and the plotline. Black Ops 3 dropped every possibility of using historical events, and unfortunately dived into the futuristic world. The game is set up in the late 2060s which depicts the world as bed-ridden and filled with mechanical human beings. Everything was carried forward from Advanced warfare to this title, which means you got to see Exo-Suits, new weapons, and vehicles.
A new feature that was solely instigated in black ops 3 was of using a new style to tackle the campaign. You can now use the Co-op feature and experience the narrative with your friends. The maximum capacity for the co-op was set to 4. Surprisingly, the multiplayer was more polished and exciting.
Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare
Release Date | 4th November 2016 |
Platforms | PC, Xbox One, PS4 |
Developer | Infinity Ward |
Sales | 26.8 Million copies |
The thirteenth Installment to the unparalleled series, infinite Warfare, didn’t get quite the hype. When the trailer surfaced on YouTube, it was one of the most disliked videos in the entire history of YouTube. Well, the game was a facsimile of its predecessors taking again on the undecided future events. The game also pushed the boundaries to the solar system, where you can experience gravity and fight off your enemies through aeronautical combatting skills.
The game also brought in a new multiplayer style into the franchise and furbished the existing zombie apocalypse mode. If you are into the future and AI-ridden world, then this title might fascinate you.
Call of Duty: World War II (WW2)
Release Date | 3rd November 2017 |
Platforms | PC, Xbox One, PS4 |
Developer | Sledgehammer Games |
Sales | 20.0 Million copies |
Cheers up for bringing back the old settings of World War 2 with new fashionable features. The fourteenth Installment was similar to the original title in terms of narrative and storyline but difficult. WW2 removed some features that were likely to assist the gamers and brought AI-Allies to the game. Well, infinite Warfare didn’t make much from its release; the same was the case with WW2 after the enthusiasts observed the developers’ negligence.
The game was quite glitchy and badly ported but was worth a while due to the Zombie apocalypse multiplayer and the settings which saved the game from the downfall.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4
Release Date | 12th November 2018 |
Platforms | PC, Xbox One, PS4 |
Developer | Treyarch |
Sales | 14.0 Million copies |
The Black Ops 4 eliminate any possibilities of Campaign mode. This new mode was incepted known as “Battle Royale,” where 100 players compete. This title was enormously based on online with elite requirements for PCs. The game harnessed every feature which was presented in WW2, especially the non-regenerative life one.
Black Ops 4 didn’t quite do good because of no probable directions for the game. It was a useless spin-off to the series, highly based on Battle Royale and multiplayer mode.
The specialty of the release was that it uses unique classes and attributes for your player. You can use abilities and sci-fi tools to win against the odds in the arena.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare
Release Date | 12th September 2019 |
Platforms | PC, Xbox One, PS4 |
Developer | Infinity Ward |
Sales | To be continued. |
This title was a regenerative reminiscence piece due to it being the remake of the modern warfare series. The game was established on the same campaign with refurbished graphics and storyline. The tweaking to the characters was tragic in the sense that it overtook the original title. Critics were angered due to developers’ mistakes in the past years and didn’t want the original title to get laid off by lousy implementation. Regardless, the game was praised by hundreds of people as it brought in the similar features from the original title and enhanced the multiplayer mode with Battle Royale. You can play with caption price and Alex as per your will and gives the narrative a wanting boost. If you want to experience history once again, go and play it
Call of Duty: Warzone
Release Date | 10th March 2020 |
Platforms | PC, Xbox One, PS4 |
Developers | Infinity Ward, Raven Software |
Sales | To be continued |
Surprisingly, Warzone is a spin-off to the new Modern warfare game, which was released in 2019. The game didn’t require you to have the original title to play since it’s completely online-based. In short, Warzone is a standalone version for the battle Royale mode. You can use classical weapons on the battlefield with your friends, create tactics, execute enemies in eccentric ways, and so much more.
Although the game is glitchy with it running on specific rigs only. But believe me, when I talk about good aspects of the Warzone, I really mean it. After the developers’ utmost blunders, they made 2020 a year, which didn’t promote negativity. If you are into battle Royale games, then Warzone is the best choice.
