Have you been thinking about purchasing Cyberpunk 2077? But considering the price, you’re confused whether it would be worth it or not. I can understand your dilemma and I blame the CDPR for it. Do you know why? Because they let us all down at the launch of this game. Back in the day, the game was full of bugs and the public was furious at the developers.
If you’d asked me this question three years back, I would’ve never recommended it. But they’ve made up for their mistakes and rid the game of all bugs and errors.
As of now, I have a totally different opinion about it and I’ll tell you why. So stick with me to find out whether Cyberpunk 2077 is worth buying or not.
Horrible setbacks at the release
Let’s venture back to 2020 when we were all so excited about the release of this action-packed RPG title; Cyberpunk 2077. But it turned out to be one of the most awful events in gaming history. Instead of coming out as a masterpiece in gaming, it set the best example of how not to release a product.
To add insult to injury, the developers owned up to their mistakes and promised buyers to fix all the bugs. Putting aside all the slandering, I thought I should give it a try. So, I splurged out my 25$ just to find out that the game did have some severe glitches.
I played the game for about an hour and by the end, I was so furious that I lodged a refund request to CD Projekt Red. I got my money back, so there weren’t any hard feelings after all.
After hearing all this you must be thinking, is Cyberpunk 2077 that bad? Well, it’s not 2020 anymore, and CDPR lived up to its promises. In the coming year, they worked out all the flaws of the game by introducing updates and patches.
So to answer your core question; is Cyberpunk 2077 worth it in 2023? I’d say, Yes! Why the change of thoughts? I’ll explain it all as I discuss how the developers fixed all of the bugs.
The Edgerunners update flipped the story!
The most critical and effective update in the fixing process was Edgerunner’s update or also known as the 1.6 patch. It breathed a new life into Cyberpunk 2077 and everyone was talking about it once again.
Another reason why this update was so special is that it was launched alongside the Netflix series, Cyberpunk Edgerunners. It was a great season and it propelled a lot of people to play the game again. And to add a cherry on top, the game had been enhanced to a great extent since its launch.
This update was about 40 GB and took care of all the bugs in the game. After hearing about this update, I started to think about giving it a second try, and the limited-time 50% off deal pushed my decision over the hill. And this time, it turned out to be money well spent. What improvements did I notice? How was it different from the last time, I’ll cover it all in my review.
My post-update review about Cyberpunk 2077
As you already know, the launch of this game was such a huge crash. So CD Projekt Red was under a lot of pressure because they had to cover up the damage of the past. And they delivered!
Not only did patch 1.6 fix all of the glitches but also new guns and gear were added in the game.
Before the update, the game was so dull and lifeless. I mean, you would shoot at people and they would just drop dead without a reaction. The cars would run you over all the time, and it was like you’d made a deal with the cops. They would keep staring at you if you shot a person dead in front of them.
But after the update, it was as if the city had been brought to life. The people walking around sometimes get offended and try to fight you. You also experience some real-life events like people protesting or a police chase once in a while.
Other than this, the game runs far more smoothly now. Moreover, the developers promised a Witcher 3-size DLC (downloadable content) at the launch of Cyberpunk 2077. But given the circumstances, they had to work on the issues first.
Now that the bugs are all fixed, CDPR is keeping its promise and releasing the Phantom expansion on September 26. If you go for this paid expansion, you’ll get to enjoy a whole new crime-related storyline and explore a lot of new content.
If you’ve been looking for a reason to play through the again, the timing couldn’t be more perfect. With the new DLC about to launch, you might wanna freshen up some old memories.
How long will it take to complete it?
Well, Cyberpunk 2077 is pretty long just like any other adventurous game. Only if you stick to the main story, can expect to finish it in about 24 hours. But if you take on all of the side gigs and go for every collectible, it might as well take you up to 103 hours. I know, quite a task!
Is Cyberpunk a dead game?
If you’d asked this question to any gamer before the 1.6 updates, the answer would’ve been Yes! But the update turned the tables all around and now Cyberpunk 2077 is on its way to being one of the most famous hits in the gaming world.
The Steam charts are great proof of it. Since the launch till August 2022, there were only 10K players of the game. Everything changed with the update and within only a month, the numbers reached up to 136K and still growing.
The stats of June 2023 show that there are over 15K daily active players of the game. These are quite impressive figures for a single-player game.
I hope it says it all, Cyberpunk 2077 is very much alive and with the expansion coming up, I have high hopes for it.

To wrap it all up, is Cyberpunk 2077 worth it? Hell Yes! It’s one of the most exciting shooting games I’ve ever played in my life and the storyline just keeps you hooked to your chair. I mean it’s Amazing!
Aside from playing along with the main story, you get addicted to the ambient lights of the Night City especially at night time. It’s just mystical!
